New assembly factory in Thailand expands AutoStore operations to APAC

To meet growing demand in the Asia-Pacific (APAC), Norwegian robotics firm AutoStore opened a new assembly factory in Rayong Province, Thailand, the company announced in a press release on Friday, June 14.
Such milestone will help get the company’s automated storage and retrieval system into APAC warehouses faster and more efficiently, AutoStore said in a press release.

“By manufacturing closer to key markets including Japan, Korea, Australia and Singapore, the new factory in Rayong will significantly enhance AutoStore’s ability to better serve our customers and strengthen our presence in the APAC region,” AutoStore vice president for APAC business development Philipp Schitter said.
Across APAC alone, over 140 systems and more than 5,300 robots are already in operation, AutoStore said.
The new factory in Thailand will help in providing better service to top brands in APAC like Puma, Gucci, Best Buy, Decathlon, DHL, GLS and Yusen Logistics that are already relying on AutoStore’s advanced technology to meet the rising demands of e-commerce.
In an email to Value Chain Asia, AutoStore said its sales in 2023 reached $6.5 billion with an order backlog worth $447 million.
Operating from a single production base in Poland since 2012, the robotics firm said the new assembly factory in Thailand is expected to double its current production capacity, with plans to produce 15,000 robots within the next 18 months.
To date, over 100 robots have already been manufactured at the facility in Thailand and sales will begin in June, AutoStore said.
